The Certified Athletic Trainer, or CAT, is a highly educated and skilled
professional specializing in athletic health care. In
cooperation with Dr. Thaxton, along with other allied health
professionals, the athletic trainer functions as an integral
part of the athletic health care team. "CATs" are an important
part of many athletic teams in secondary schools, colleges and
universities, sports medicine clinics, professional sports
programs, and other athletic health care settings. |
|
Certified Athletic Trainers have a minimum of a
bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Athletic Trainers usually major in athletic training, sports
medicine, health, physical education or exercise science. CATs
are also knowledgeable in human anatomy, human physiology, bio
mechanics, exercise physiology, athletic training, nutrition,
and psychology/counseling.
All of WCSM's athletic trainers are
certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board
